Maria Chiossi, Harpist

Maria Chiossi started playing the harp at the age of nine when she entered in the Conservatorio of Brescia in her home town. She was 13 when she won the first price in The Italian Salvi Competition for young talented harpists.

In the 2002, just after graduation, Maria was chosen to play in The Italian Salvi Musicians’ Platform as she was one of the best students that graduated in her year.

While studying the harp, she cultivated her interest for the philosophy and she graduated with honours in Padua, with a dissertion on the nature of musical time. Maria currently studies with Gabriella Dall’Olio on a postgraduate scolarship at Trinity College of Music.

Maria has performed solo recital and has also made appearences with many amateur, semi-professional and professional orchestra in Italy and England. She has been working with conductors and composers such as Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, Giancarlo Facchinetti, Paolo Ugoletti, Diego Masson, Gregory Rose, Stephen Maw, Nick Pendelbury, Daryl Runswick and Simon Wright.

Maria has been chosen to represent The Trinity College in a Summer European Tour, where she will play, with the Italian flutist Massimo Mercelli, the Mozart Concerto for flute and harp featured in our 4 May 2006 concert to raise money for a Maternity Unit at the Health Centre in Nyofelleh, The Gambia..
